Important calligraphic Iznik tile

Provenance: formerly in a French collection, acquired between 1920 and 1930
This tile is decorated with a well balanced thuluth calligraphy reserved in white on a cobalt blue background with small touches of coral red.
A very closely related example dated circa 1570 is kept in the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha (Inv. TI.015.97) and published in: Carswell, J. (2003) Iznik: Pottery for the Ottoman Empire, The Islamic Art Society, N°14.
